An internship at the ICD gives you the opportunity to gain valuable work experience within a growing not-for-profit organization in the field of intercultural relations. You will develop important contacts with like-minded individuals both inside and outside the organization (including high-profile figures from the Berlin diplomatic and international communities). You will learn valuable, transferable skills in the area of project development and management, and intercultural relations in general. You will, moreover, be able to commit your energy, enthusiasm, and creativity towards an exciting program. Those interns at the ICD who apply themselves are rewarded with extra responsibility, including staff management, and are supported if they wish to pursue their own initiatives in the field. The ICD has a dynamic, multicultural working environment, which serves itself as a venue for cultural exchange, and we welcome interns who are looking to make a difference in positive way.
Your specific responsibilities will depend upon the activity of the ICD at the time of your internship and the allocation of staff in the different departments. Typical responsibilities include:
-Writing and editing articles related to the field
-Conducting interviews with high-profile figures
-Public relations and marketing activity
-Program-based research (databasing)
-Project development and co-ordination
-Event planning for public panel discussions, lectures, seminars, and workshops etc
The ICD welcomes applications from individuals with the following attributes/qualifications:
-Post or undergraduate studies in the following areas: International Relations, Modern Languages, Cultural Studies, History, Law, Political Science, Communications, Economics, Business, Photography, Film, Journalism, Web design, and related areas.
-Excellent spoken and written English. German language skills are an advantage; other language skills are considered an asset.
-A flexible, positive approach and a strong work ethic.
*Before applying interns should be aware that all ICD internships are unpaid and that internships are only offered to individuals who can commit to an internship at the ICD for a minimum of 3 months.
